Strathrory Rock Quarry opens with a blast!

Posted on

Pat Munro has opened its newest quarry Strathrory Rock, just outside Alness, with a controlled blast on Thursday 20th August.

Strathrory Rock Quarry has a massive reserve of 5.5million permitted tonnes and is expected to be in production for the next 50 years and beyond. The new quarry will be Pat Munro’s first entry into the rock market, allowing it to provide armour stone that can be used for seawall construction, harbour expansions and land reclamation as well as cheaper crushed aggregates that will satisfy the landscape gardening market.

Steven Munro, Director of Quarry operations commented, “The opening of Strathrory marks the next step in an ongoing expansion plan here at Pat Munro and will safeguard our aggregate supply well in to the future. After 70 years, our first quarry Caplich, is essentially all worked out, but will still be operating as the main base for all other operations, including asphalt & concrete production.”
