Core Functions of Role: 

  • Ensure an appropriate pipeline of work to meet the Surfacing Resource(s) i.e., 2 x squads and/or to budget 
  • Ensure all enquires (commercial and domestic) are responded to in a timely manner
  • Preparation and submission of PQQ’s; Tenders and Quotations to agreed timescales 
  • Carry out regular post-tender ‘follow-up; review and analysis’ to ensure all opportunities are realised  
  • Ensure pricing strategy is appropriate to current market conditions – plus, a clear understanding of the market and competitor activity. 

Principal Job Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Surfacing Manager, as the Surfacing Estimator you will undertake and carry out the following duties:  

  • Preparation and submission of pre-tender qualification submissions.  
  • On receipt of tender documents carry out detailed review and prepare action plan for tender process.  
  • Where required, carry out detailed site visits to determine site conditions and mitigate risk and identify opportunities.  
  • Coordination and management of the preparation and issuing of Subcontract and Supplier enquiries for Tenders.  
  • Preparation of take-offs and Bills of Quantities from Tender Drawings where none supplied.  
  • Build up accurate cost estimates for tenders and complete data entry into proprietary Estimating Software.  
  • Preparation and presentation of tenders for adjudication and approval.  
  • Maintaining appropriate tender records.  
  • Prepare such reports as may from time to time be requested by Senior Management.  
  • Compliance with the company’s quality assurance procedures to ensure achievement of company objectives – in relation to quality, health & safety and profitability matters.  
  • Any other duties as and when required by the Surfacing Manager

Applicant Qualities 

The successful applicant will ideally have the following skills & experience: 

Experience: 

  • Proven experience in construction estimating. 
  • Prior operational experience in surfacing and/or allied profession i.e., knowledge of road construction techniques/procedures/specifications and materials 
  • Product knowledge 
  • IT skills 
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and protocols.

Certification: 

  • Civil engineering or Quantity Surveying Qualification  
  • CSCS Card 
  • Full UK driving license as you will be required to cover a large geographical area
