In line with our Company’s mission, “To continually develop as a sustainable business for the benefit of our people, our customers and our local community”, The Pat Munro Foundation has been established with the purpose of providing support to a variety of worthy causes within our operational work areas including charities, community groups and other disadvantaged or social enterprise entities.
Run by volunteers from Pat Munro (Alness) Ltd, The Pat Munro Foundation organise and take part in a number of events throughout the year to raise funds to facilitate such support.
In 2017, these events kicked off in February with a Race Night held at the Alness Golf Club, in support of Klaudia, the daughter of one of our team. Klaudia, who is now 3 years old, was born with a congenital brain abnormality and lower motor neurone facial palsy. The night was a great success and raised an amazing amount, helping reach the intended target to facilitate four pioneering stem cell treatments and intensive therapy sessions.
A Texas Scramble Golf Day was held at Invergordon Golf Club in September, where teams competed under clear blue skies and took on more than a few refreshments to stave off any potential dehydrating effects from the sunshine! Thanks to the generosity of participants, most notably during a live auction, the day was a massive success.
In February 2018 another race night was held at the Alness Golf club where nearly £5,000 was raised.
This race night was quickly followed up, in March 2018, with one of the design team of Pat Munro Homes, Robbie Macdonald, running the Inverness Half Marathon, raising £500 to add to the funds of The Pat Munro Foundation.
These fundraising events allowed The Pat Munro Foundation to raise the necessary funds to support Klaudia during the early part of 2017, with further support being provided to the following:-
Mikeysline - Run by young volunteers, this helpline has been created to support similar age persons that need someone to listen to and gain advice should they feel lonely, depressed or are just going through a tough time.
Archie Foundation – A charity supporting child healthcare provision across the North of Scotland, including the Children’s Ward at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. Not only do they provide specialist equipment, specialist staff and enhance hospital environments, they also support families and fund research for nearly 200,000 sick children each year.
Amelia’s Red Carpet Event – Amelia’s family have committed to fundraise on her birthday each year in support of The Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. As a charity close to their hearts, they were so grateful of the support they were all given when Amelia was born prematurely. They have also fundraised for Raigmore’s Renal Unit.
The Place Youth Club - Located in Alness High Street, the Place is a hub for secondary school children providing a safe place to meet, interact, socialise and help encourage them to avoid falling into antisocial behaviours.
Rock Challenge – Funded by “Be Your Best Foundation”, this non-profit charity aim is to encourage young people to lead healthy lifestyles and to be their best without the need for tobacco, alcohol or other drugs. Groups of school children perform in friendly arts competitions, by using a dance and drama production on a theme of their choice. Each group fundraise with families and friends throughout year for new costumes, props and travel etc. Local Rock Challengers from Alness Academy came 1st place at Eden Court, Inverness on Monday 26th March Highland’s heat this year. They will be competing in the Scottish Final in Dundee on the 15th June 2018, with the amazing performance of remembering 167 men who lost their lives on the Piper Alpha Oil Disaster in 1988.
Be Safe Be Seen – Providing Hi-Vis Vests to local primary schools to promote the “Be safe, Be seen” campaign.
Support was also given to Isobel Rhind Centre, Highland Hospice, STV Children’s Appeal and a number of others.
With more than £12,000 being donated to worthy causes in the last financial year, the business is immensely proud of the charitable efforts of “The Pat Munro Foundation” and of “Team Pat Munro”.
In recognition of this, the business pledged match funding to the Pat Munro Foundation fundraising efforts.
