As a Waste & Recycling Plant Operator / Trainee, you will learn to operate a range of mobile plant used in the waste industry including telehandlers and loading equipment and moving of HGV Skip Lorries (on-site only). The work scope will be split between two waste transfer stations in Alness and Inverness, therefore a full driving license will be essential. All other training will be given as required. As well as waste collections and sorting we also provide recycling services at various local events which may involve occasional weekend working.

Core Functions of Role

  • Assisting the site Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager to ensure the efficient, safe, and economic processing of various waste streams
  • Provide support to the Waste Department 
  • Ensure effective housekeeping of the CWT shed, IWT shed MRF and licenced areas

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the site Operations Supervisor your duties will include

  • Assist in the sorting of waste and preparation of various waste types prior to onward disposal.
  • Assist with the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment (e.g., loading shovels, telehandlers, skip lorries (on-site only) and trailer movements.
  • Support the movement, sorting, and processing of various waste materials.
  • Undertake routine inspections and basic maintenance checks on machinery.
  • Follow site safety procedures and comply with environmental regulations.  
  • Work collaboratively with the operations team to maintain a clean, organised site.
  • Participate in training programmes and achieve required certifications (e.g., mobile plant tickets).
  • Carry out instruction from the site Operations Supervisor and Operations Manager.
  • Ensure relevant Pat Munro procedures are adhered to.

  • Be trustworthy, friendly, timeous and reliable
  • Previous plant experience desirable however full training can be provided for the right candidate
