Location                      Alness / Inverness base, with works across the Highlands and Moray

Working Hours             Full Time Mon-Fri, normal minimum 42.5 hours per week.

Duration                       Permanent

Holidays                      30 days

Remuneration              Competitive salary relevant to experience.

Probationary Period    3 months from commencement.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Surfacing Manager, the Surfacing Supervisor will play a crucial role in overseeing and coordinating road surfacing projects within the Highlands and Moray.

This involves leading and effectively managing a team of workers on site to ensure the efficient and high-quality completion of surfacing contracts. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of road construction procedures, specifications, laying techniques and materials as well as safety protocols, and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and stakeholders, both verbally and in writing.

 

Principal Job Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Surfacing Supervisor include:

  • Plan, programme Surfacing works, including Supervision and Co-ordination from initiation to completion.
  • Ensuring adherence to project timelines (programme) and communicating any changes to programme effectively with stakeholders.
  • Ensuring works are carried out to specification (depths, material type etc).
  • Lead, motivate, and manage teams of road surfacing workers. This includes working with them to ensure development and training.
  • Ensure adequate labour resource is available by managing both the labour resource holidays and the programme.
  • Identify, implement and enforce quality control measures to guarantee the highest standard of road surfacing.
  • Conduct inspections to identify and address any issues promptly.
  • Enforce and promote strict adherence to safety regulations and protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and toolbox talks to ensure all team members have the necessary safety knowledge and equipment.
  • Allocate plant and materials costs into the relevant cost reporting systems.
  • Ensure labour timesheet returns are accurate and allocated to jobs on a weekly basis.
  • Coordinate with internal and external suppliers to ensure timely delivery of required materials and plant.
  • Assisting Foremen to maintain accurate project records, such as diary records, laying and dip records.
  • Ensuring adverse incidents are accurately and timeously reported via the reporting systems.
  • Ensure site instructions or variations are recorded and agreed as part of the valuation of the works.
  • Measure and record works accurately.
  • Carry out and record material reconciliation analysis and feed this information back to senior management.
  • Assist with tender pricing when required.

And from time to time other duties as directed by their Line Manager.

 

Applicant Qualities

The successful applicant will ideally have the following skills & experience:

Experience:

  • Proven experience in road surfacing or related construction field.
  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience, however training can be provided.
  • In-depth knowledge of road construction techniques and materials.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and protocols.

Certification:

  • A full, current driving license
  • SMSTS/SSSTS or working towards.
  • CSCS card or working towards.
